A belated Merry Christmas

Christmas sort of snuck up on us this year...guess having a little one will do that to you.  Hopefully Evalyn won't mind me using her as my excuse for not getting my cards out to everyone that I wanted to.  We wish you all a happy holiday just the same and here's to getting it all done earlier next year.

Hot Head

Evalyn had a fever last week, which I chalked up to a possible impending tooth.  She was perfectly happy, eating normally, sleeping a bit more than usual but no other symptoms.  Tylenol stopped controlling her fever on Friday evening so we took her in to KidsCare.

After a quick exam and a urine sample we were sent on our way.  They said they'd call with the lab results.  Sunday afternoon we were notified that Evalyn had a bladder infection and they called in antibiotics.  She'd been fever free since Saturday morning, but we picked up the prescription on Monday and started her on them.  Here's where things get sort of interesting.

Evalyn's pediatrician called to follow-up on Monday afternoon.  I let her know that she was fine, didn't have a fever and seemed back to 100%.  She said that was great, "but I want to run a few more tests for vesicoureteral reflux."  They wanted to do an ultrasound on her kidneys and a VCUG.  I told the doc that I wanted to discuss it with Lane and that I'd call back and let them know our decision.

We've decided not to do either test at this time.  This is the first issue she's ever had and IF she ends up with another infection we'll go down that road.  But for now - she's as happy and healthy as can be...

Little Shop of Horrors

My phone rings.

Her:  Hi, this is Affordable Pet Grooming, we have a problem with your pug.

Me:  Okay, what's the problem?

Her:  Well, we had three pugs here today and we got them mixed up.

Me:  Okay?

Her:  We accidentally shaved your pug.

Me:  You shaved her?  Who shaves their pug!?

Her:  So um, well, we're not going to charge you okay?

Me:  That's fine, thank you.

After finishing up our errands we pick Sassy up and head home.  Everything seems okay with her until Lane notices blood on the floor.  Lots and LOTS of blood.  E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E.  It was all over the wood floors in the kitchen, spots on our living room carpet and down the hall.

We scooped her up to figure out what was going on, they had trimmed two of her nails so short that they were bleeding badly.  Now if you have a dog and have ever done this by accident, you know that they bleed for a long time and there's really nothing you can do to stop it.  So, the poor thing was stuck in the bathroom all day yesterday.
